The UK genomic tools developer, RevoluGen Ltd., today announces it has entered into a collaboration agreement with Tecan for the development and manufacture of an automated version of its Fire Monkey/ Fire Flower DNA extraction and size selection product.
Tecan is a leading global provider of laboratory instruments and solutions in biopharmaceuticals, forensics and clinical diagnostics. The company specializes in the development, production and distribution of automation solutions for laboratories in the life sciences sector. Its clients include pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, university research departments, forensic and diagnostic laboratories. As an original equipment manufacturer (OEM), Tecan is also a leader in developing and manufacturing OEM instruments and components that are then distributed by partner companies.
An automated Fire Monkey/Fire Flower protocol will allow for sequencing on a variety of platforms, combining the use of a 96-well plate well and centrifuge to remove the need for manual laboratory tasks. Automation is poised to reduce the time required, reduce cost, and allow extraction of larger volumes.
Pieter Haitsma Mulier, CEO of RevoluGen commented “Automation represents a game-changing differentiator and will allow us to rapidly scale operations at a lower cost per unit. Subject to a successful outcome of our collaboration with Tecan, we anticipate commercial launch of the automated Fire Monkey protocol in 2021.”
